Description
The national flag of Vatican City was adopted in 1929 and is a vertical bicolour of gold and white, charged with the coat of arms centred on the white portion. The yellow band represents the spiritual power of the papacy, while the white band represents the temporal authority of the Pope, according to the Vatican City Tours. The papal coat of arms features the crossed keys of Saint Peter and the papal tiara.
The flag was adopted in 1929, when the Lateran Treaty was signed, establishing Vatican City as an independent state. According to Vatican City Tours, the crossed keys represent the authority given to Saint Peter by Jesus to open the kingdom of heaven, and the tiara symbolises the Pope's spiritual authority over the Catholic Church.
All flags are finished with double-stitched hems, UV-stabilised header tape, and UV-stabilised recycled thread. Unless specified otherwise, all flags are finished with sister clips. Other finishes are available, such as sleeves for poles or loop and tail, etc. If you require these, please put the finish you would like in the notes when you view your cart.
