This Heritage flag has not been designed as a reconciliation flag or a flag for the Yes or No voters – it is a true and modern design to represent Australia’s past, present and future.
This new Australian heritage flag is designed to express the correct history of over 50,000 years of occupation and civilisation in Australia.
The First Nations, Indigenous and Torres Strait Islanders are represented in the upper hoist quarter, called the Canton, or the top left. We have placed the Dhari, a dancer’s headdress with a 5 pointer star to represent the Torres Strait Islanders in a larger sun.
Below that on the left is the Commonwealth Star, shown with nine points to represent the six states, two territories, and the Torres Strait Islands.
On the right, the Southern Cross is on an angle as seen in our night skies by the majority of Australians. The four main stars of the Southern Cross are eight points, representing the six states and two territories.
The British red and blue stripes in the Commonwealth Star create a crown, representing British settlement and colonization.
