Flag Recycling
When your flag has reached the end of its life, we encourage you to simply bring your old flag back to us when you are purchasing your new one. We work with The Textile Recyclers Australia to repurpose old flags, along with recycling our offcuts.
After removing any clips and eyelets, these are considered 'post-consumer textiles' and are mechanically shredded, the recycled fibre is then spun into yarn. The yarn is used to make a variety of recycled products including totes, cushions, gloves, insulation, and even the stuffing that goes into motor vehicle seats.
We love knowing that our flags don't just go to landfill once they have served their purpose, and that they continue to be used for other purposes.
Compostable Packaging
At Harry West Flags we are committed to reducing our environmental impact wherever possible. A major factor for our business is maintaining a sustainable way to deliver our products to our customers. Most (if not all) of our orders are shipped within fully compostable mailers.
The mailers we use break down into rich compost within around 90 to 120 days in a home compostable environment, meaning you can receive your order without the packaging producing any harmful toxins or environmental damage.
Receive your order
Your flag arrives in a fully compostable mailer, no plastic, no harmful materials.
Add to your compost
Place the mailer directly into your home compost bin. No need to remove labels or tear it up.
Breaks down in 90 to 120 days
The packaging breaks down into rich compost, leaving behind nothing harmful.
In some cases we also reuse existing packaging, such as cardboard boxes, to ship our larger orders, reducing the amount of new packaging used by our business.
Working towards a sustainable future
It's the small changes which contribute towards huge impacts. At Harry West Flags, we are continuously looking to improve our sustainability efforts and implement any action we can to work towards a sustainable future. From the UV-stable recycled thread we use on every flag, to the way we package and deliver your order, sustainability is something we think about at every step of what we do.
Looking after your flag extends its life significantly. Small habits, bringing your flag in during extreme weather, washing it occasionally, and checking fittings regularly, can make a real difference. Read our Flag Aftercare guide for full details.
